I was beyond excited when my friend, Mike, and fiancee,Taylor, asked me to take their Pittsburgh engagement photos. Mike’s family and mine have been friends and neighbors for as long as I can remember. He was the annoying little brother I never had — ever following my friends and I to the batting cages on hot summer afternoons. Mike’s childhood superpower was having the mouth of a drunken sailor, a trait for which his parents blamed his older brother and me. But, I can’t pick on Mike too much because he’s the one who got me work as the Erie Otters team photographer.
How They Met
But this post isn’t about Mike and me. So, if you would, please allow me to set up our couple’s story a la Sophia from The Golden Girls. Picture it: St. Bonaventure University, 2011. Situated in southwestern New York State, the school houses about 2000 students. Two of these students: Mike, a grizzled grad student, and Taylor, a wide eyed sophomore, first crossed paths while working for the university. But life went on. Fast forward to 2012, when things changed for the heroes of this story. Mike and Taylor went on their self-described, awkward first date. That turned into a second date — a round of golf. Taylor won the round, of course. And the rest, as they say, is history. Now in 2017 we find our heroes happily engaged and living in Pittsburgh, which provided a perfect backdrop for their engagement photos!
Sometimes all you need for a good background is a few leaves and a bit of sunshine. It’s all about the simple things in life.
Did I happen to mention that Pittsburgh, the Steel City, sure is beautiful?
Go ahead, Taylor, show off that ring. Well done, Mike!
Can’t wait to watch these two tie the knot this October. A Bonny pair indeed!
