Most people imagine their wedding day as picture perfect, or at least hope it will be. But no matter how careful the planning is, the weather is always one variable that just cannot be controlled. As a wedding photographer and lifelong resident of Erie, PA, I’m very familiar with anything the local weather might do. I know how to make sure the day is picture perfect, even if the weather doesn’t cooperate. And that’s just what happened at Brittany Bateman and Allister Tronchin’s wedding at Sheraton Bayfront Hotel.
Brittany and Allister’s Love Story
Our happy couple met right here in Erie at one of the Metropolitan nightclub’s College Nights. Allister noticed Brittany hanging out with her group of girlfriends. Undaunted, he approached the group and asked her to dance. According to them, “one song led to the next and before we knew it the club was closing”. Though the night of dancing was over, their lives together were just beginning. Allister and Brittany exchanged phone numbers, and they had their first official date the following weekend. The rest, as they say, is history.
A Stormy Day
Brittany and Allister’s wedding at Sheraton Bayfront Hotel is connected to the Convention Center by the Skybridge, which they chose for their First Look shoot. But for the bridal photos, they originally decided to have an outdoor shoot. Here was where mother nature decided to disagree and started up a winter storm. So, we stayed inside using the beautiful views of the Bicentennial Tower as a backdrop.
Personal Details and a Wicked Sense of Humor
At every wedding, I look for the small details that showcase each couple’s personality. Brittany and Allister’s wedding at Sheraton Bayfront Hotel was no different. When we met for our final details meeting, we learned that Brittany works in a medical research lab and Allister is an attorney. So, it wasn’t surprising to see the elements seating chart, beaker vases and the scales of justice holding flower petals.
Just because it was rainy and gloomy outside doesn’t mean we were all serious inside. My favorite candid moment of the day happened while Allister and his groomsmen were getting ready. Per tradition, Allister handed the rings for safekeeping to the best man, Alfonso Perez, his best friend of nearly a decade. Swept up in the moment, Alfonso dropped to his knee and proposed . . . to Allister. While all the guys laughed, I was able to capture the entire sequence.
Although the weather did not behave as planned, Brittany and Allister were still able to have a picture perfect wedding day.
