As the saying goes; “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” That is exactly what I did during Amanda Hunt and Justin Scarpitti’s recent Whispering Woods engagement photos. This amazing couple set out to have their photos taken outside. However, the weather had other plans. My first attempt to celebrate this couple was rained out, but a little rain wasn’t going to hold us back. Our persistence paid off and I was able to capture some amazing photos of this great couple.
The Connection
Amanda and Justin first met at Wegman’s, a local grocery chain where Amanda worked in 2012. The pair formed a great friendship that lasted several years before finally deciding to take their relationship a step further. It was at a Dave Matthews Band concert in 2014 where Amanda finally made the first move on Justin, and they have been inseparable ever since. She knew Justin was the right man for her when she would watch him play with her kids, Timmy and Ava; Justin was a natural father figure and got along great with them both.
The Proposal
Family is important to both Justin and Amanda. Justin knew he had to incorporate Amanda’s children into the proposal to make it a truly spectacular moment. He enlisted their help to pop the question while on vacation in Virginia Beach. He had a plan and asked the kids to play along. Ava and Timmy worked hard to keep their mom distracted throughout the trip, while Justin waited for the perfect moment to surprise Amanda. Caught up in what she thought was going to be a mom-duty moment reprimanding her daughter, Amanda was pleasantly surprised when Timmy called out for her to turn around. Finding Justin down on one knee with the ring in his hand the jig was up! Amanda was completely taken aback and overjoyed that her proposal involved the whole family.
Whispering Woods Photo Session
Justin and Amanda chose the lush grounds of the Whispering Woods Golf Course in Erie, PA. A fantastic choice with picturesque rolling greens, tranquil streams, and towering trees. Mother Nature had other plans! The lush greenery of the golf course could not shield us from the rain, and our first attempt was completely rained out! It took a little time and a couple of attempts but we managed to get some great shots. I was really impressed with this couple and their determination to make the most of our session. A little damp grass wasn’t going to get in the way of capturing their love.
The North Pier
After we finished the Whispering Woods engagement photos, we headed down to Presque Isle State Park in hopes of catching a decent sunset. With the functioning lighthouse as a backdrop, the North Pier has to be one of my favorite places in Erie for engagement photos. Again, our persistence paid off and some of the sunset managed to peek through the clouds. Thank you, Mother Nature!!
With smiles like these, we can’t wait to see what their Warner Theatre wedding has in store!
