I recently had the privilege of reconnecting with Matt and Lydia, a beautiful couple who were celebrating their winter micro wedding in Erie, PA. Now, you’re probably wondering, What is a micro wedding? According to brides.com, a micro wedding is “an intimate affair, typically with no more than 50 guests. They still feature time-honored traditions that make a wedding but on a much smaller scale.”
I first got to meet Matt and Lydia for their fall engagement photos. It’s always so fun to capture couples through multiple photo sessions and see things come full circle. Of course, because of COVID-19, their circle had to take a few detours. Although their wedding party shrank in size twice, the final intimate family gathering was absolutely stunning. The pandemic has created a lot of upheaval in all our lives, but it certainly didn’t detract from our couple’s gorgeous winter micro wedding.
From Wild Wings to Diamond Rings
Any relationship that starts at Toys ‘R’ Us promises a lifetime of fun. Lydia and Matt’s first date began with a quick stop at the toy store before heading to Buffalo Wild Wings and watching the Flyers vs. Capitals game.
Two and a half years after that first fateful date, Lydia and Matt were still going strong. They took a vacation in North Carolina and found their way onto a beach at nightfall. As Lydia was sitting, taking in the view, Matt recognized the unbeatable romantic atmosphere. He got on one knee and popped the question. Needless to say, he met with a resounding, “Yes!”
Lydia may have been writing in the sand when the proposal happened, but it’s clear to me that this love story was written in the stars.

A Sweet Home Ceremony
Kayla, my second photographer, and I were so thrilled to be among the guests at this beautiful home ceremony. Although the crowd was smaller than originally planned, the strength and joy of these families was so clear. Lydia’s cousins officiated and filmed the day, and it was so exciting to see Lydia and Matt’s life together start with such a touching family effort. Even Mother Nature pitched in — blessing us with some heavy snowfall that made for incredible portraits outside of the home.
Erie Club Bridal Portraits
For Matt and Lydia’s bridal portraits, we headed to the Erie Club, the original venue for their wedding reception. With classic red brick and bold columns, this downtown Erie staple looks practically regal. Our couple fit right in!
Perry Square Winter Wonderland
Downtown Erie’s Perry Square is always stunning, but the holiday season brings it to a whole new level. When I heard that Matt and Lydia would be having a wintry wedding, I knew that a trip to the Square’s iconic lights was essential. These lit-up night photos were the perfect end to a day full of brightness and joy.
