A Scottish Themed Wedding at Bushy Run Battlefield with Kiley & Sam

It was very thrilling to photograph the wedding of a good friend! I met Kiley Fischer a few years ago at the Erie Otters Hockey Club and we became fast friends. Kiley married Sam Roha on October 26, 2019 in a Scottish themed wedding at Bushy Run Battlefield Museum showcasing the history of Pennsylvania.

SAM & KILEY

In 2015, French-Indian war re-enactors, Kiley and Sam, were at a group dinner with friends. They met earlier that day and spent dinner talking about…anything and everything. Their mutual friends had slowly left, eventually leaving the couple alone at the table talking for four more hours.  Over the next three years, Kiley and Sam’s love blossomed out of their mutual appreciation for the other’s commitment to kindness and generosity. In the spring of 2018, Sam had the perfect plan to propose to Kiley. He decided to pop the question at a pipe band party in Pittsburgh. That night, it suddenly began pouring down rain, forcing him to reconsider his plan. The ring remained in his pocket for three days, until he proposed to Kiley at Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle. With the picturesque waterfall in view, Kiley accepted Sam’s proposal.

WEDDING CEREMONY AT BUSHY RUN BATTLEFIELD MUSEUM

Kiley and Sam chose a ceremony site close to their hearts. Their ceremony took place at Bushy Run Battlefield, where British colonels led a defeat against Native Americans in 1763, opening western Pennsylvania to British settlement. As the couple met at a reenactment festival, and are both re-enactors, the ceremony exuded their love for each other and shared passion. I took their bridal photographs on the grounds of the ceremony venue, as well as the intimate first look between Kiley and Sam. I also photographed a beautiful first look between Kiley and her father outside of her bridal suite.

RECEPTION AT THE HARRISON ROOM

The couple’s reception was hosted in the Harrison Room in Harrison City, Pennsylvania. The ceremony was Scottish themed. It was refreshing to see a couple bring so much of their individuality and passion into their wedding planning. Along with the Scottish theme, the couple incorporated some Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings inspiration, nodding to their British roots. It truly felt like fate that there was light rain occurring throughout the day, feeling like they were celebrating in perfect Scottish weather. The wedding was beaming, maybe partially to credit that rain is awfully good luck on your wedding day.
