Jackie & Pat’s Lake Erie Engagement Session: You, Me, and Puppy Makes Three

What is the only thing better than a Lake Erie engagement shoot with a dynamic couple like Jackie and Pat? That would be a session with them AND their adorable puppy, Reggie. Puppies make everything better!

Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park

I recently spent a wonderful day with this threesome celebrating their engagement by taking photos at two of my favorite spots. We started out at Frontier Park, home to the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier (LEAF), where over 225 different kinds of trees can be found. LEAF’s motto is “Trees and Memories Grow Here!” and we had a great time making that slogan a reality.

Reggie, a five-month-old golden retriever, decided that the first order of business was to sniff every tree in the arboretum. Pat and Jackie had to half-walk, half-run down the snow covered park paths to keep up with him. However, even Reggie’s boundless energy couldn’t compete with their joy at being together. So, little Reggie took periodic breaks and wait while Jackie and Pat exchanged a kiss or just enjoyed being in each other’s arms. Once or twice, Reggie decided that he too needed to join in the love session. Then, he would catch a whiff of something and charge ahead.

The North Pier at Presque Isle

After the arboretum, we dropped Reggie off and went to the North Pier at Presque Isle State Park. The lighthouse, built in 1872, was the perfect backdrop. The 74-foot tower is the second American lighthouse built on Lake Erie and still functions under the auspices of the US Coast Guard. The spirit of the Eriez Nation, the first people to live in the area, must have inspired Jackie and Pat.  They seemed completely undaunted by the fierce wind that was blowing off the lake. Fortified with some coffee, they walked hand in hand along the pier enjoying their Lake Erie engagement photo session. At one point, Jackie balanced on the edge; her hand in Pat’s was seemingly the only thing keeping her from falling into the icy blue-gray water.

As you can see through my portfolio, I prefer to photograph in a natural setting. And I’m feeling pretty pumped about this Lake Erie Engagement shoot. I managed to capture the warmth of Jackie and Pat’s love despite the cold, windy winter weather. Any pair who is so in love that they don’t notice the tempest around them will certainly have a long and happy marriage. Can’t wait to see what their wedding at St. Patrick’s Church and the Masonic Temple has in store for us!

I enjoy doing engagement shoots because I have a chance to capture the feelings of happiness that a couple experiences when they have committed to spending their lives together.
