Today’s online dating scene can be overwhelming, and a girl can’t be too careful! So, after a promising Tinder match, Maggie selected a casual, public environment (Thai food for lunch) and came prepared with an exit plan. Lucky for us, she didn’t have to use it! Upon meeting Ryan, Maggie kept thinking, “Thank goodness he’s tall, and his voice isn’t weird!” In fact, their first date went so well that it lasted beyond lunch, spilling over into an afternoon browsing art museums and dinner.
From that first date in downtown Chicago, Maggie & Ryan’s relationship grew into one that has withstood some tough times. We can all agree that it’s easy to be attracted to someone, but it takes commitment and fortitude to stand by another person through moving, job loss, and other unexpected curveballs of life. Yet through it all, they always chose each other!
An Icy Proposal
After three-and-a-half years of loving Maggie, nothing was going to stop Ryan from asking her to be his wife. But, even the best-laid plans sometimes hit some speed bumps. After planning his proposal for months, Ryan had to pivot because of Covid (who didn’t?). Then, the custom-designed ring took a bit longer than expected. None of this stopped Ryan. On December 26, Ryan, Maggie, and her parents drove around the peninsula near the Presque Isle Lighthouse to enjoy the beautiful holiday light displays. Ryan then stopped them at the lighthouse and suggested they get out. It was a snowy, frigid evening, but Maggie loved Ryan, so she got out with him. And right there, in the cold and snow, Ryan dropped to one knee and asked Maggie to be his bride. He didn’t need the perfect schedule. He didn’t even need the ring. All he needed was his heart full of love for Maggie, and that’s all she needed, too.
A Majestic Woods Wedding
When she appeared at the aisle in her exquisite beaded and lace-topped ball gown, Maggie took Ryan’s breath away and brought tears to his eyes. His bride was breathtaking.
After a morning of preparations and celebrating with their bridal parties, Maggie and Ryan chose an idyllic gazebo as the site of their wedding ceremony at the gorgeous Majestic Woods near Findley Lake in Clymer, NY. Majestic Woods boasts 77 acres of privately owned wooded land, complete with covered bridges, ponds, rolling green hills, and a beautiful reception hall with crystal chandeliers dripping from the ceiling. It was the perfect day.
As self-professed nerds, Maggie and Ryan had to infuse a bit of their personalities into their ceremony. One way they achieved this was with a custom-painted unity art piece that combined their love of sci-fi with their lighthouse proposal story. They completed the painting together as part of their ceremony.
Maggie and Ryan’s wedding day was about their love and the people close to them. Their love for one another was woven throughout all of their choices for the day, including their first dance song. They chose Nothing by Bruno Major, and we loved how the lyrics perfectly described Maggie and Ryan’s perspective on life:
Tracksuits and red wine, movies for two
We’ll take off our phones, and we’ll turn off our shoes
We’ll play Nintendo, though I always lose
Cos you watch the TV while I’m watching you
There’s not many people I’d honestly say
I don’t mind losing to
But there’s nothing like doing nothing
With you
