You don’t expect to get a request to photograph someone’s home wedding at a roller derby photo shoot, but that’s exactly what happened. It was a pretty typical photo shoot with the Eerie Roller Girls. The skaters were having fun, breaking my chops, and being all around goof balls. Here we were taking photos for their Christmas cards and social media post.
After we finished, one of the skaters, Holly (a.k.a. Flygurl), approached me to ask if I was available her DIY wedding. She and her fiance, Dan Bowen, were planning theirs for Black Friday. They really wanted me to photograph their wedding. However, during their furious planning they completely forgot to ask me earlier. As luck would have it, I was available, so I agreed.
The Home Wedding
The Bowens have a beautiful back yard where the wedding was initially set to be held. Unfortunately, Erie weather in November just didn’t cooperate. With the wedding now inside, Holly and Dan spent Thanksgiving week setting up this cozy and beautiful indoor space.
It was an intimate affair with only close family and friends in attendance.
The ceremony was brief but touching. My allergies started to act up when they read prepared vows not only to themselves, but to their children as well. Damn, it sure was dusty in there!
The only thing I regret from that day was I didn’t have the chance to do a celebratory shot with the happy couple. Fear not, Holly and Dan. In the meantime, we at the LLC wish you both nothing but the best! We are honored you chose us to photograph your most special day.
Holly and Dan are proof that you don’t have to have the large, church wedding to capture great memorable moments on your special day. Contact us to talk about bringing the vision of your special day to life!
