Maria and James are one of our 2021 couples, and we recently met up at Erie Bluffs State Park for their engagement photos. With so many plans delayed and canceled because of COVID, it was so nice to finally get outside and celebrate such a happy couple. So much of Maria and James’ history as a couple involves the outdoors, so it was such a privilege to capture them in their element. As everyone eagerly anticipates the big wedding day, I am so happy to finally be sharing some of my favorite moments from their session.
Big Bear Love
James and Maria’s first date involved a road trip from Anaheim to San Diego. Despite nearly two hours of car time, conversation flowed easily and Maria recalls never feeling awkward. By the time they reached their destination, they knew it would be far from their last date.
A month later the pair headed to Big Bear Lake for some snowboarding. James wasn’t afraid to ask about Maria’s feelings and talk about a potential future together. It was here that James officially asked Maria to be his girlfriend. Two years later, he would pick the same venue to ask her another life-changing question.
They had just reached the top of the ski lift and Maria was ready to ride. She couldn’t understand why James kept calling for her to wait. Against her snowboarding instincts, she allowed him to catch up. All of her confusion was cleared up when she saw him get down on one knee. Her frustration was swapped for absolute joy as she said, “Yes!”
The Erie Bluffs State Park Engagement Photos
The bluffs of this iconic state park are no match for the snowboarding sites that Maria and James are used to. Still, they were the perfect backdrop for some stunning engagement photos. Erie Bluffs State Park is home to miles of shoreline and, on the day of our shoot, gorgeous smiles. I took their photos at the Elk Creek Boat access on Lake Erie. The incredible wildlife made for some unbeatable natural scenery, while still allowing the happy subjects to shine. We can’t wait for their Headwaters Park wedding!
No matter the setting of your love story, Matt Mead Photography wants to help you capture it. While Maria and James didn’t require me to follow them up a ski lift, I know that I would’ve in order to get some “peak” photography.
