Engagement photos are meant to tell a love story. I love capturing these stories every step of the way, and especially so when one the couple are personal friends. This was the case with Madeline and Kolten.
I first met Madeline while doing sports photography for Gannon University, where she is the Assistant Sports Information Director. Sadly, I am unavailable on their actual wedding date. Disappointed I couldn’t be present to capture their big day, I decided to give the happy couple a Frontier Park engagement session as an early wedding gift.
Frontier Park in Erie, Pennsylvania
Kolten and Madeline brought their rescued Golden Retriever, Alley, to the park for their Frontier Park engagement session. LEAF (Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier) is a tree museum within the park that offers more than a thousand trees and idyllic views of nature.
Introduced by mutual friends, Madeline and Kolten first forged a long-distance friendship because Madeline was then living in South Carolina. Communicating mostly through Snapchat and text, their friendship soon blossomed into love. She had made the first move by inviting him as her plus one to a wedding. Eventually Madeline moved back from the south and as the summer of 2016 faded away, it was Kolten who first said the words … I love you.
Shining Love For Each Other
Kolten’s love shines through when he talks about Madeline. “Her smile is infectious. She is so passionate about everything she does and she has one of the kindest souls I’ve ever known. She makes me a better person every single day that we are together and I know that will never stop.”
“I knew I wanted to marry Kolten right away,” Madeline said. “He loves all the silly quirks about me I thought would never be lovable to another person. One of my favorite sayings is ‘Love is friendship set on fire,’ and that describes our relationship perfectly. He makes me feel beautiful, special, and loved every single day.”
Fur Babies, Football, and Forever
These self-described best friends have fun no matter if they go out for a night on the town or sit together on the couch and watch football. Madeline also appreciates that Kolten adopted Alley and now loves her as much as she does (which is a lot, she was quick to add).
Kolten originally planned to propose on the weekend of their second anniversary, but their work schedule proved too hectic. After a big homecoming victory, he met her at the corner of the football field as they always do. Then, with the school’s victory bell ringing behind them, Kolten got down on one knee and asked Madeline to be his wife.
I had a lot of fun capturing the love between Madeline and Kolten. And yes, Alley too. Frontier Park here in Erie, Pa is but one of many great locations for your engagement photos.
